Hair clippers with a vacuum are a great idea, especially if you intend to cut your own hair or someone else’s hair at home.
Remington has very much nailed down the best vacuum hair clippers on the market.
There isn’t much of a choice to be honest, which is quite surprising given how popular these clippers are.
Although you sacrifice a strong, industrial motor and have to contend with a somewhat bulky clipper, the trade-off in terms of the ‘clean-up’, can be worth it.
In This Guide..
Benefits Of A Vacuum Hair Clipper
The unique selling point of a vacuum clipper is obviously the ability to suck up snipped hair.
Normally when you use hair clippers you end up with a lot of hair on the floor.. if you’re lucky.
So much of it seems to find its way onto your clothes and other areas of the bathroom or kitchen.
It’s not a deal-breaker, but a nuisance all the same.
The ability to vacuum hairs as you cut them, so they don’t mess up your room or clothes is a massive benefit and a unique feature only a few manufacturers have adopted.
Here are the few vacuum clippers available..

Flowbee Haircutting System

The Flowbee Haircutting System is the original haircutting/vacuum clipper.
Not a vacuum hair-clipper as we know it, but it still does the job it was designed for.
In fact, it’s had somewhat of a resurgence lately, since George Clooney admitted to using it to successfully cut his own hair.
Here’s the video showing George Clooney on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” mentioning that he’d been cutting his own hair during the COVID-19 pandemic, and then demonstrating it live!
It’s a little clumsy, almost medieval-looking, but has built up a strong following since it was introduced in the 1980’s.
Here’s another video explaining and demonstrating the features of the Flowbee:
Despite how it looks, the Flowbee works exactly as it should.
It is more powerful and robust than the Remingtons clippers and can hold more cut-hair before you need to empty it.
Also, due to the super-powerful vacuum, it sucks up virtually 100% of the cut hair.
Verdict
It looks exactly how it did back in the day, during those 2 am infomercials.
However, if you don’t give 2 hoots about how it looks, you actually have a hair cutting machine that works pretty darn well.
Don’t expect precision fades and blends or the ability to cut a star shape into the side of your head!
If you’re not that precious and just want a good-standard, regular hair-cut, the Flowbee fits the bill.
Hey, if it’s good enough for George Clooney right?!

Vacuum Attachment For Wahl Clippers

Okay, so this isn’t a vacuum hair clipper, because no-one else other than Remington makes a vacuum hair clipper (as we know it).
This is a plastic attachment that sits over your Wahl clipper and attaches to your home vacuum cleaner.
No, I’m not kidding!
This attachment is only designed for Wahl clippers.
The problem is we don’t know which model of Wahl clippers, as it doesn’t fit them all and Wahl doesn’t tell us which one’s it does fit.
I’m only putting it to you, to show you what alternatives there are – very few.
It might work okay when attached to a pet hair clipper for cutting dog or cat hair. You don’t need to be quite as precise.
For the rest of us humans, I would give it a wide birth.
But don’t let me put you off!
If you fancy trying this gadget out, go for it. Let me know how you get on 🙂

Best Way To Use A Vacuum Hair Clipper
That heading may sound a little daft, but hear me out..
For your regular home hair cut – every 3-4 weeks, you have to accept the fall-out caused by stray, cut hairs.
As long as you use a cape and have a vacuum cleaner on hand, you should be reasonably good.
However, a vacuum hair clipper comes into its own when you just want a quick tidy-up around the ears and neck.
You know what it’s like after a week or so.
The sharp, clean-cut starts to fade as hairs start to grow again.
This is when you want to use your clipper but don’t want to have to cover up surfaces or get the cape out etc.
A hair clipper with a vacuum is perfect for these clean-up jobs without causing any mess.
‘Trim and go’ I like to call it (perhaps I should register that as a brand!)
The clipper doesn’t need to be the best hair clipper, just good enough for a tidy-up.
The Remington Hc6550 Cordless Vacuum is perfect for this job.
Final Thoughts
Apart from The Flowbee, which is a different beast altogether, Remington seems to have the only 2 vacuum hair clippers on the market – a cord and cordless model as above.
I believe they have a patent that gives them this monopoly, and why other companies haven’t produced anything similar.
Having said that, the Chinese company Kemei has ripped-off produced a similar cordless vacuum clipper.
Not sure Patent laws apply to China!
Their vacuum clippers are very hard to find and certainly not a company I would recommend anyway.
Remington has created and continually improve and update a unique type of hair clipper that is great to use at home.
Both of their models have a top-rated lithium battery and a motor that will easily cut the majority of hair types.
If you have particularly thick or coarse hair, or you want a machine that will cut much quicker, you’ll need to look at ‘non-vacuum’ alternatives such as the Wahl Magic Clip, Oster Fast Feed, or the Andis Master.
