Whether you cut your own hair or cut other people’s, you need a good quality, reliable hair clipper.
Never be tempted to buy cheap clippers (or any similar products) from places like Walmart.
You will always regret it!
With so many models to choose from, the clipper for you comes down to what your personal needs are.
- How often will you use them?
- Will you need them for travel?
- Does it need to be cordless?
- Do you want an ‘all-in-one’ clipper that will also trim your beard?
- Will you be using them professionally or occasionally cut other people’s hair?
Below are the best clippers on the market, that cover every style and every budget.
In This Guide..
- Best Professional Hair Clippers
- Best Hair Clippers For Outlining and Precision
- Best Home Use Hair Clipper
- Best Balding Clippers

Best Professional Hair Clippers
There are loads of professional use hair clippers to buy, but many of them can’t cope with the constant, daily use they are intended for.
If you use a clipper in a professional capacity, my advice is to stick with the top, established brands.
The leading, professional clippers have been used in the hair industry for decades – that’s because they do the job.
At the very least, you need clippers that are reliable, robust, and have a good quality motor.
One last thing..
Don’t be afraid to use professional hair clippers at home.
Professional clippers are more expensive than your average, home-use clipper, but the quality and ease of cut you’ll get from them is usually worth the money.
Here are my recommended best professional hair clippers:
Oster Classic 76
In my opinion, the Oster Classic 76 is the best professional hair clipper money can buy.
Given how well this machine performs on ALL hair types, it is cheap enough for anyone serious about cutting hair -even just occasionally.
Through my research, testing, and feedback, including from those in the hair industry, I have yet to find a clipper that delivers a better cut.
I discuss the pros and cons in my review.
Andis Ceramic BGRC
The Andis Ceramic BGRC Detachable Blade Clipper is one of the leading, professional hair clippers on the market today.
A clipper that rivals the Oster Classic 76 has to be very unique or different in some way.
Its cordless option means you pay more for this clipper, but the benefits justify the price tag.

Oster Fast Feed
The Oster Fast Feed Adjustable Pivot Motor Clipper is a mid-range hair clipper that produces a professional finish at a very reasonable price.
This would make an ideal home use clipper as much as it is at home in a barbershop or hair salon.

Wahl Peanut Clipper
The Wahl Peanut Clipper has become somewhat of a ‘style icon’ among the top clipper models, with its ‘peanut shape’ and funky body design.
This professional clipper is perfect for intricate detailing and precision trimming. Also available as a cordless.

Wahl Professional 5-Star Magic Clip
The Wahl Professional 5-Star Magic Clip is another top-notch, professional hair clipper from the Wahl camp.
This clipper is a real work-horse, and a favorite machine in barbershops across the world.
Its powerful motor, sharp cutting blade, and long run time, as a cordless hair clipper, make it ideal for pros and home use alike.
Great for fades, blending, and cutting through coarse hair.
Probably one of the best hair clippers for cutting black Afro-American hair.
Best Hair Clippers For Outlining and Precision
Andis T-Outliner Trimmer
This Andis T-Outliner has been around a long time.
Over the years it has been upgraded and improved upon, simply because it’s great at what it does.
Although normally the domain of professional barbers, this quality machine can be used at home if you have some experience in cutting and styling hair.
It comes in different models including cordless and a cool limited edition black.
Best Home Use Hair Clipper
Although the professional hair clippers are ‘advertised’ as such, they can work perfectly fine for the average Joe to cut hair at home.
They may take a little getting used to, and obviously cost more.
If you don’t want to spend too much money on a clipper, or you’re new to cutting hair, there are some decent ‘complete’ hair clipper kits, that are ideal for home use.
Here are my recommended best home use hair clipper:
Wahl Elite Pro High Performance Haircut Kit
The Wahl Elite Pro home-use hair clipper is probably Wahl’s most successful home-use clipper.
It is a robust, reliable, and quality-built machine.
Plus the kit is shipped with everything you need to cut hair at home.
Not the cheapest home use clipper by any means, but you get what you pay for, and with a LIFETIME warranty, the people at Wahl certainly back this home hair-cutting kit.

Wahl Color Pro Cordless Rechargeable Hair Clipper & Trimmer
Wahl has done it again, with their Color Pro Cordless Hair Clipper & Trimmer.
They’ve found the right balance of quality and affordability for the budget-conscious home user.
These features, and the funky, color-coded accessories, explain why these clippers are flying off the shelves.
Don’t expect a professional tool with a high-powered motor. You will spend longer cutting hair.
However, if you’re considering your first hair clipper, and don’t want to spend much money, this clipper is a good choice.
Best Balding Clippers
Wahl Professional Balding Clipper
If you’re looking for a hair clipper to achieve (an almost) complete head shave, you need to look no further than the Wahl Professional 5-star Series Balding Clipper.
This is a professional mains hair clipper that is specifically designed to remove all of your head hair or at least 95% of it!
- Powerful heavy-duty corded clipper, ideal for continual use.
- Professional V5000 vibrator motor for durability and longevity.
- A surgical blade that will slice through your hair like a knife through butter.
- An excellent balding clipper at a really good price.

BaBylissPRO Barberology Cordless Metal Double Foil Shaver
Okay, so these are not hair clippers. It is a shaver!
A double foil shaver at that.
However, they work like a charm in shaving your head to a bald or near bald look.
As with the BaBylissPro cordless clipper, they come in gold, rose gold, and silver.
For a complete face and head shave, the BaBylissPRO Barberology Cordless Metal Double Foil Shaver is as good as it gets.
Best Self-Cut Hair Clipper
Cutting your own hair is not for the faint-hearted!
However, if you do your research, take your time, and buy a clipper that is designed for the job, you could save yourself a lot of time and money.
Here are my best self-cut hair clipper recommendations:
Remington HC4250 Shortcut Pro Self-Haircut Kit
Remington has come up with a great design with their Shortcut Pro Self-Haircut Kit.
Although now copied by other manufacturers, Remington was the first company to design a curved blade, self-cut hair clipper.
Surprisingly the small motor is powerful enough to cut through all styles and textures of hair.
It may take a few more passes over the hair, but for ease of use, and cutting ability, this is one of the best self-cut hair clippers on the market.
Philips QC5580 Do-it-Yourself Hair Clippers
The Philips QC5580 Hair Clippers have a slight edge over the Remington Short Cut Pro, in that these clippers can rotate 180 degrees.
This makes it easier and quicker to cut your own hair.
They are a lot more expensive, but if you want to cut your hair short or bald, the QC5580 clippers are a great buy.

Q. What are the best hair clippers for fades?
A. All the leading hair clippers are able to create fades and blend hair.
Any of the clippers I recommend above, you can use to fade.
Q. How do you create a fade with hair clippers?
A. You can create fades by changing the guide combs on the clipper or using the taper lever if the clipper has one.
For the untrained eye, a skin fade looks like an easy job, but it takes a good amount of time and skill, to create an awesome-looking fade.
Here’s a great video by a professional, demonstrating how to fade with clippers:
